About

Kristine Stattin is a textile artist, born in Stockholm, Sweden, now living and working in her home studio in the Occitanie region in the south of France.

She predominantly works with free-motion machine embroidery and hand embroidery.
There is a constant interest in exploring the opposites of these two techniques.
The first is fast-moving and highly focused. The straight stitches from the sewing machine are dancing across the surface with a rhythmic beat, being happy, carefree, and very spontaneous.
Where as the hand stitching sits you down, entering a reflective, meditative, and introspective mode.

Her working process is mindfully intuitive. With very few stitching techniques, she builds her expressive and colourful abstract embroidered paintings in layers, stitch by stitch. Each mark gives direction to the next one. There is a pull between order and chaos, and she is bringing to the surface something intangible. She describes it as "an exercise into being in the now, with my thoughts, feelings, senses, and to translate my inner voice through line, shape and colour".

Kristine has a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art from Middlesex University in London, U.K.
She is a member of S.E.W (Society for Embroidered Work), and has exhibited internationally, e.g Sweden, Italy, Spain, Ukraine and France.
